A long time ago, two peoples reigned over the Earth: The Humans and The Monsters.

One day, war broke out between them.

After a long battle, the humans were victorious.

They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell, deep underneath Mount Ebott

But…

Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return… Contrary to this legend was an event in the year 2010X when a child, Frisk, fell into the underworld through a crater that was on Mount Ebott.

There she got to know the monsters, became friends with them and, as well as this, she reopened the passage that the humans had sealed many years ago, to set her new friends free.

After such a long time, changes were noticed, as the days passed…

×××××××YEAR:202X 5 YEARS AGO××××××××

Monsters and Humans again started to live amongst each other, but it was clear that not all the humans accepted this new reality and their prejudice against the monsters became known as besticísm. After going back to the underworld, Frisk went home and found what they call chaos, but was just her monster friends settling anew on the surface, which wasn’t being well received by the rest of the humans.

Frisk’s mother was someone who we can call a Besticist, not because she hated them, but because she feared them, and she didn’t want her daughter to suffer at the hands of these “cannibals”. And, five years after returning to her city, Frisk saw that her life had taken on a toxic routine in which she spent most of her time locked in the house because of her mother’s fear of her friends. Almost coming of age she wanted to go and see her friends, maybe to see them for just one day would be enough, but… it seemed that this wouldn’t happen anytime soon.

On one particular morning, she arrived at home after a heavy day; she had been relocated to another classroom far from her classmates, because hers had been infested with “beasts” like her mother had said. In the breaks between lessons she was considered besticist and shunned by most of her friends; she saw her mother in the living room watching news, her father probably at work, and threw her satchel on the sofa and apparently wasn’t expecting what happened next:

—Frisk! What did I say about your satchel?

—...hmm, ok. (she took the satchel to her room, where she changed clothes). Good day to you, too.

—And how was your day?

She didn’t want to lie by saying everything was good and she didn’t have to worry about anything that was happening, but she also didn’t want to tell the truth:

—Yeah, it was fine

— hmm...

That answer did not work, her mother was absolutely certain that there was something more. She said:

— I knew it; those creatures did something to you, didn’t they? Don’t worry, I’ll make a complaint about this tomorrow.

— Wait, what? No, there’s no problem, they didn’t do anything to me.

— You don’t need to lie to me, I already understand the whole truth.

— The truth that only you understood.

She didn't listen and was already on the phone; Frisk’s mother was like that, she ignored her daughter frequently and was overprotective. In that moment she demonstrated again her worst defects, but on that day Frisk would not let it go.

— Hi…yes…no, my daughter had some problems at school today with some monsters in her class… Darling, what are their names?

— Hang up the damned phone now!

She said it in a low voice, but threatening. Her mother was shocked at the way her daughter had spoken:

— Just a minute, please. What’s wrong?

— Nobody did anything to me, actually nobody wants to hang around with me because they think I’m a besticist because of you. My friends stay away from me. We were together but now you changed my classroom and said those things in the meetings, everyone thinks this about me and I don’t want this for myself!

— Huh? You like to hang around with those beasts that invaded the world?

— Of course, is it not obvious? Why do you think that most days, when I come home, I’m crestfallen and sad?

— Because of them!

— You locked me for most of my childhood in this house because of them, and you don’t have the least bit of interest to know them, yet you judge them so much.

— THEY ARE MONSTERS!

— AT LEAST THEY ARE MORE HUMAN THAN YOU!!

After this outburst, Frisk felt that what she had just said was not what she had really wanted to say:

— (panting)...Mum, I didn’t mean…

— Starting next week, I’ll change your school, because I’m already a monster who doesn’t care at all about the feelings of others.

Little did she know; but this decision was taken without thinking twice and could be a future disaster; after this her mother left the room. Frisk buried her face in a cushion on the sofa, she had just made everything worse, she didn’t have to say that, but she hadn’t wanted to say that, not even to think that…

Suddenly, someone knocked on the front door gently. Her mother went to open it, while she hadn’t moved at all and was still buried in the cushion:

— Who is… oh, now this, what are you doing here, huh?

— Uh, forgive me but, I’m looking for a girl, short hair and eyes… were, slanted, I think there is another way to say that…

— Why do you want to speak to her? What does somebody like you have to say to my daughter?

— Your daughter? N-nice to meet you madam…what’s your surname?

Suddenly, with a sigh, Frisk felt that she recognised that squeaky voice, with the tongue between the teeth, from someplace.

— Look, I don’t need to give you any answers about anything here, ok. If I were you I would leave now before I get angry with you.

— But, please listen, madam, I just wanted to find her again. It’s been such a long time since our last meeting.

— I don’t want to know, go away.

Frisk got up and looked out of the window to see who was there, but she couldn’t see exactly who it was; she moved closer and closer to the door because of her curiosity until…

— Alphys?!

Alphys stopped focussing on the woman and turned her attention to the girl:

— Frisk?

— ALPHYS!! How long has it been?!

The two of them hugged tightly, while Frisk’s mother couldn’t believe what she was seeing and thought that her daughter and this monster had completely forgotten that she existed.

— My girl, how have you been doing these last few years?

— Very well, thank you - there was a note of irony in her words - but what are you doing here?

— Ah, I recently moved to the surface in search of more comprehensive studies about humans, since I didn't have much time with you down there underground.

— I understand, I hope your studies go well. But what exactly did you want to speak to me about?

— I wanted to see you, I missed you…

She paused a moment before speaking again:

— Also, I wanted to invite you to visit the underworld again.

— W-What?

Frisk thought for a moment and quickly reached a conclusion, what was there to think about? It was obvious that what she wanted most was to go back to that magical place with her old friends, who often visited her in her dreams recently:

— Of course I want to go, it is what I want most!

— Great, I will take you there…

However, she intervened.

— Just a minute, you think...

— MUM!

Frisk shouted, but it seemed like that wasn’t really what she wanted to do, so she tried to say any other thing that would remove the heavy air that was between them:

— Look Mum, the two of us are not doing very well. I know it’s not an excuse for me to go with her, but… you need to know how to deal with the situation that is happening with the Earth now. Don’t deal with this like an unwanted escape, but rather like a trip I’ll soon be back from, this I swear to you.

She turned and went to her room to pack a small backpack with a few important things for her trip; her mother, in contrast, was completely in shock. Her daughter had never spoken to her in this way before, but was she wrong? Had she said something she shouldn’t have, or simply said what Frisk had really needed to hear? Suddenly she came out of her room with her backpack ready:

— Alphys, let’s go?

— Errr…

She glanced at Frisk’s mother, who had gone inside and was slowly closing the door after the two of them:

— Do you think she will be ok?.

— I think so, I feel a bit lighter now I told her how I feel.

— …Ok, let’s go then?

She nodded her

head, and went. Just like that, was the beginning of Frisk’s adventure. Well, better to say… A restart of an old adventure in an unknown time.
